Other Materials
A catch-all category for packaging materials not covered by the main material types, including textiles, ceramics, rubber, cork, and other uncommon packaging substrates used for specialist applications.
Other materials is a reporting category under pEPR for packaging that does not fit neatly into the main material categories of plastic, paper/card, glass, aluminium, steel, wood, or fibre-based composite.
This category may include:
- Textile packaging (cotton bags, hessian sacks)
- Ceramic or stoneware containers
- Cork closures and packaging
- Rubber or silicone packaging
- Biodegradable or compostable materials that are not paper-based
- Multi-material packaging where no single material dominates
Producers using other materials must still report the weight and packaging type in their RPD submissions. These materials may have limited or no established recycling infrastructure, which can result in higher modulated fees. The RAM assessment methodology determines the recyclability classification for uncommon materials. Producers should verify the correct material code before submitting data.
