Reporting Period
The defined time window for which packaging data must be collected and submitted. Under pEPR, reporting is typically split into two periods per year with specific submission deadlines for each.
A reporting period is the timeframe that a data submission covers under pEPR. The reporting year is split into defined periods, each with its own submission deadline.
Key points about reporting periods:
- The reporting year typically runs from January to December
- Submissions are usually required for half-year or annual periods
- Deadlines are set by DEFRA and published in advance
- Late submissions can incur penalties
Producers must ensure their packaging data collection systems align with reporting periods. Data should be aggregated accurately — for example, packaging placed on the market in January–June forms one period, July–December the next. The data from each period feeds into fee calculations. Producers (or their compliance schemes) should set calendar reminders well ahead of deadlines and begin data compilation early to allow time for quality checks and corrections via RPD.
