National Packaging Waste Database
The Environment Agency's online system for managing packaging waste registrations, data submissions, and PRN/PERN trading. Being supplemented by the RPD service under pEPR reforms.
The National Packaging Waste Database (NPWD) is the Environment Agency's online system that has historically managed packaging waste compliance in the UK.
NPWD functions include:
- Registration of obligated producers and compliance schemes
- Recording and trading of PRNs and PERNs
- Accreditation management for reprocessors and exporters
- Publishing packaging waste statistics
Under pEPR, the NPWD is being supplemented by the new RPD (Report Packaging Data) service for data reporting. However, NPWD continues to play a role in PRN/PERN management for non-household packaging. Producers and compliance schemes need to use both systems during the transition period. The NPWD provides valuable public data on UK packaging recycling performance and PRN prices.
