Activity Type
The classification of a producer's role in the packaging supply chain, such as brand owner, packer/filler, importer, seller, or distributor. Each activity type carries specific reporting and fee obligations.
Activity types define the specific roles a business performs in the packaging supply chain under pEPR. A single business may perform multiple activity types and must report under each one.
The main activity types are:
- Brand owner — owns the brand on packaged goods
- Packer/filler — physically packs goods into packaging
- Importer — brings packaged goods into the UK
- Seller — sells directly to consumers
- Distributor — supplies goods to other businesses
- Online marketplace — facilitates third-party sales
When reporting packaging data through RPD, producers must specify which activity type applies to each line of packaging data. This determines how fees are allocated and prevents double-counting across the supply chain. Understanding your activity types is the first step toward accurate compliance.
